Message from The Humble Servant
1st of all I want to thank my Lord and Almighty Savior Jesus Christ and say thanks to all our "Humble Servant" catering supporters...speaking of Humble Servant, I think its important for folks to know that it started out of need and not out of greed...as a Professional Eater myself I first acknowledged that in order to have a dish of the best BBQ, Seafood or Soul Food, one would have to travel to either Oakland (15 miles away) or Vallejo Ca. (20 miles away) to get a decent bite to eat...it was then that the Lord put it on my heart to open a catering restaurant...one day.

A little later, it was revealed to me, that is my eyes were opened to the fact that the majority of Richmond's work force worked long hours with only a 30 min lunch break and limited options for lunch so unless one of the co-workers called ahead of time and then went out and got the food for everyone else, they would have to settle for foods like Popeyes, Burger King and other fast foods...thus the birth of LFTC (Living For the City) which started out as "you call, we cook and deliver"-although it was a short lived experiment and difficult to say the least we (my partner Derrick Shaw and I) had problems such as if we were delivering, who would cook and if we were cooking, who would deliver?? Didn't have any money to start and finished with less than that but the desire (and the need) was STILL there!! I knew we were headed in the right direction. That was back in 2007 and we were always off and on with endeavors keeping service in mind and under different names (Our Fathers 10%, "Meals On Wheels" etc.)

Well enough about that as I stated I wanted this post to be brief as possible...."need not greed" simply means this: I never set out to do this just to make money!!! I believe the Lord put it on my heart to serve people what they needed and when I could (1 Peter 4:11 is the Humble Servant theme and Scripture)...I have run into people that have said things like "I used to sell dinners" or "I used to do that" and I NEVER took took the chance to ask them what happened because I KNOW what they're gonna say: They didn't make money, didn't make enough money or they unknowingly give me some advice on "HOW TO QUIT" and though I have paused on several occasions, QUITTING HAS NEVER BEEN AN OPTION because Humble Servant has always been BIGGER than me, it's about you, the people that have allowed us to serve what we deem to be (I try my best not to brag, I believe the food should speak for itself) good food at a very affordable price, delivered to you in time for lunch, as a matter of fact if I told you how much or how little money "I" make in these endeavors 9 people out of 10 would be UNinspired to take on this endeavor but again I say ITS BIGGER THAN ME!! Remember this if nothing else: Jesus is Lord and what you get from Humble Servant you will not be able to get anywhere else as far as quality, price AND service...remember, I said I am a "PROFESSIONAL EATER" so text me a question about any plate I serve I'll tell where you can get something similar and then you can judge for yourself!!!

In closing I just want to say that when you've had and when you have the opportunity to support "Humble Servant" whether its by purchasing a plate, letting us cater for you or even if it's simply putting a prayer in the air, you are not doing so to put money in Chef Ron Webster's pockets, but you are helping us be a blessing to many others as I have employed fellow and other college students, single parents, housewives and teenagers EVEN WHEN I TOOK A LOSS ON PROFIT AND DIDN'T MAKE A DIME FOR MYSELF I made sure those people were PAID (The Homefront Festival by the Bay 2011 comes to mind)...but no worries, I'm just doing my best to stay on the path the Lord has put me on to "Humbly Serve Good People, Good Food" and I will keep on doing so until the Lord tells me otherwise!! SPECIAL THANKS TO THOSE THAT ACTUALLY TOOK THE TIME TO READ THIS AND AS ALWAYS GOD BLESS!!
